Residents train primarily at South Brooklyn Health, a 371-bed community hospital with a diverse patient population and a wide spectrum of pathology. The patient population is primarily English, Russian, and Spanish, speaking (with increasing amounts of Asian, East Asian, Central Asian, and Eastern European languages being spoken as well). In addition, our hospital is part of the NYC Health + Hospital system, which includes eleven hospitals in New York City making up the largest public health care system in the country. This includes multiple sites across New York City including King’s County Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center), Harlem Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center), Jacobi Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma Center). Residents have the opportunity to rotate at these facilities as well as the New York Poison Control Center. They also take part in EMS ride alongs with FDNY, and have elective time in their third and fourth years. It is the goal of this program to create a physician who is a patient advocate and who wants to drive continuous change in the practice of Emergency Medicine for the betterment of all they serve.
